Coca-Cola debuts crowdsourced song to cheer Chinese Olympians on

BEIJING - With the London 2012 Olympic Games around the corner, a song co-created by 200 million Chinese and performed by Lang Lang and Jacky Cheung marked the climax of the “Beat For China, Move The World” campaign co-organised by the Chinese Olympic Committee and Coca-Cola China.

Coca-Cola debuts crowdsourced song to cheer Chinese Olympians on

The 'China Beat' song was performed at the Beijing Workers Stadium as a public display of support for Chinese athletes competing in the London 2012 Olympic Games. It was the culmination of the creativity of almost 200 million Chinese across the country, each contributing a musical beat to the song.

After a three-month long nationwide call for people to contribute to the 'China Beat', a crew of professional DJs handpicked by Coca-Cola China remixed the beats from these entries to create a final medley.

Former and present Chinese athletes including Guo Jingjing, Chen Yibing and Zhang Jike led the crowdsourcing drive by creating their own composition of beats first.

Coca-Cola used online and offline channels to collect the entries, which ranged from dance beats to quirky sounds of kitchen utensils to digitised voices of people from all walks of life.

The six-minute medley was then included in renowned pianist Lang Lang’s piano overture, inspired by 110-metre hurdler Liu Xiang, who is Lang’s close friend and performed by pop star Jacky Cheung.

A giant Coca-Cola 'China Beat Bottle' containing millions of blessings and encouragement will be presented to the Chinese Olympic delegation the day before the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games on 26 July.
