Hunt (pictured) replaced the former general manager of three years, Leo Chu. As reported last September, he took up the managing director role at Tribal DDB Group Shanghai in November.
Hunt will lead the 50-plus strong Shanghai team and be responsible for the expanding list of clients in the region, which includes Nike, Unilever's Lipton brand, Lux, and Calvin Klein. The agency has just launched a new year digital campaign for Uniqlo.
Hunt is a UK native, with over 20 years of international marketing and brand communications experience under his belt. He spent 10 years working in Holland, five years in London, as well as the past 12 years in China in the key cities of Beijing and Shanghai,
He was previously the managing director of BBDO Proximity for three years, where he was responsible for driving the integration of digital and traditional marketing services across all Chinese offices, including setting up the Proximity Beijing office.
Prior to this, he worked as managing director at TBWA/Tequila China and Integer China, as well as Momentum in Beijing.
Commenting on the appointment, Sproule said, “We are delighted to welcome David as the general manager in Shanghai. His proven leadership, combined with more than ten years of experience and successes in China, will help accelerate growth and fuel the innovation of AKQA’s work in this important and dynamic market.”
Hunt added, “I am really excited to bring my expertise to an innovative and still independent agency like AKQA. Additionally I look forward to working with the Shanghai team on the growth of our China and Asia business.”
