If you asked me to pick the five best ads in Asia over the past 25 years, I would like to pick those I still remember now.

I still remember Neil Fench’s print campaign done for the XO brand beer - which he eventually admitted was a non-existant brand!  The ad was actually for a Singapore publisher (Straits Times) who wanted to sell print ad space. Nothing can beat Singapore print, and suberb Neil French.

I still remember the Black Cat Whisky campaign (above), done by BBDO Thailand. It was a really crazy film, but totally outstanding itself from the trend of serious TVC in those years. This was one of the first to start the Thai style humor in their TVC history.

I still remember the Japanese TVC for Lion Toothpaste. It seems that the father brings his daughter to see the dentist, but after passing through many sensitive but annoying noises on the street, we realise it was the daughter who was bringing her father to see the dentist. Japanese humor, and their storytelling, forever makes you excited.

I still remember my Wellcome TVC ( Father and Daughter). How a daughter saved every single dollar to buy back an hour from her busy father to play with her. Of course, I love it. I remember this also because it not only got a gold, but was voted as the best TV in the Spike show.

I still remember the Chinese New Year TVC for the brand Marlboro cigarette. It showed hundreds of Chinese male dancers in traditional Ching Dynasty wardrobe, dancing all the way from the Great Wall to the Palace. The thing you can recall most is the music, that classic Marlboro theme song but in Chinese instrumentation. Great TV craftsmanship and superb production values, before the time Hong Kong was handed over to China.
