Twitter discusses Promoted Accounts for brands

GLOBAL - During his recent IAB MIXX keynote address in New York, Twitter’s COO Dick Costolo discussed a new Twitter product, Promoted Accounts, which would help brands find more followers.

Twitter discusses Promoted Accounts for brands

The new product, which was speculatively outlined in a number of blogs, would help brands increase their Twitter following by placing them alongside, for a fee, other Twitter users in the social networking’s 'Who to follow' feature.

The idea is to only suggest brands that are relevant to a user, using the same algorithm that it already uses when it suggests who to follow. This will be based on the things a user or the people he follows have indicated interest in.

While Twitter declined to comment or give more details on its new Promoted Accounts initiative at this point, they are expected to make an announcement soon.
