According to Blue, Ip is to oversee the agency’s operations across China and Hong Kong. He joins from fellow WPP network Grey Group, where he moved from GM of Grey’s relationship marketing to MD of G2 Greater China.

According to Ip’s online profile, he previously served as MD of Wunderman China.

According to Candie Chiong, Grey Group’s regional VP of marketing and communications, the network will not immediately name a replacement for Ip. G2’s operations in Greater China will continue as it is, she added, headed up by Ellen Liu and Waters Xu in Beijing and Shanghai respectively. In Hong Kong, G2’s offering was integrated into Grey Hong Kong earlier this year, headed by Danny Mok, CEO of Grey Shanghai & Hong Kong.

The position of MD of Blue China had been vacant for more than a year. In 2009, Oz Aksugur, worldwide COO of BLUE, told Media that Chabanel passed away on 24 March 2009 in his sleep. No further details were available to the cause of his death.

“Stephan had been with Blue for over five years. After a successful period in Blue’s Singapore offices, he moved to Beijing where he spearheaded Blue’s growth in China across its Beijing and Shanghai offices,” Aksugur said at the time.

“Memories of his boundless energy, can-do attitude, and fiery sense of humour will stay with us forever and help us navigate through these dark times.”
