Girdhar's appointment follows Praveen Sharma's departure as head of the Bharti Group account.

Girdhar was most recently the senior manager of online marketing at MakeMyTrip.com. His eight year stint in the digital industry also includes a role as interactive account director at Cheil Communications.

Sam Balsara (pictured), chairman and managing director at Madison World (Madison Media's holding company), said, “Digital has now become the focus area for most advertisers.”

The company said Madison Media accounts for 10 to 15 per cent of the country’s spend in digital.

“Madison believes that this expertise [in digital] should reside within Madison media planners and buyers, given the importance of this medium in the coming years,” Balsara adds.
