Monkey King creates havoc in China's viral video ratings

From China: ‘The Monkey King Family’ for PepsiCo by Civilization Shanghai

Monkey King creates havoc in China's viral video ratings

When fellow furry primates, especially mythological ones, are at the helm of a film and marketing campaign, Ad Nut is ecstatic. In this PepsiCo ad for Chinese New Year Of The Monkey, the life of the protagonist actor in the drama based on Chinese classical novel Journey to the West is portrayed with aplomb.

The Monkey King is a symbol of heroic rebellion but also courage and morality in Chinese popular culture—but with the irreverant personality that you would expect of a monkey. These are qualities that Pepsi feels that the brand also embodies. Can Ad Nut star as a cameo next time, Pepsi?

The video has racked up millions of views in China and earned the brand some international coverage as well.
