DDB China has appointed Jason Wu as chief executive officer, with immediate effect. Wu takes over from Matthew Cheng, who has returned to Hong Kong for family reasons.
Before his return to DDB, Wu was managing director of Wunderman Thompson Shanghai. Prior to that, he worked at DDB China as vice president from 2013 to 2016.
As new CEO, Wu will accelerate the drive towards digital and social commerce marketing for the agency’s clients, such as Mars Wrigley, Hennessy, Polestar, Unilever, Continental Tire, MediaTek and H3C, across offices in Shanghai, Beijing and Guangzhou.
David Tang, CEO of DDB Asia, expressed his thanks to Cheng in a press release, and welcomed Wu’s return. He said: “We have a lot to thank Matthew for steering DDB China Group through the last four years. We’re backing Jason with his local business acumen and his drive for digital transformation to lead our growth strategy in China.”
Wu will work closely with Tang and DDB Asia to lead the agency group’s regional collaboration and innovation.
Wu’s appointment marks a return to the agency he fondly describes as “the most dedicated and nicest people he has ever worked with”. He added, “It’s great to be back at DDB. I look forward to building on Matthew’s great work and leading the team to winning work. I’m really excited about DDB’s global network, intelligence and creative focus to deliver unexpected business results with our clients, team and partners.”

Born and raised in Shanghai, Wu has over 20 years of experience working for 4As. He founded Animal, a digital marketing agency. In the past few years, he worked with brands and projects across FMCG, fashion and luxury sectors, including ABF's Twinings, Ovaltine and Yakult China.
