During his presentation, scheduled for the morning of day two, titled 'How to leverage social media', SY Lau will explore the power of social media in China. China is now the world’s number one internet market with 384 million users, a 28.9 per cent year-on-year increase.

According to a synopsis of Lau's presentation, Tencent believes that social media has changed the way we consume media. It not only changed the Internet usage pattern, but has affected consumers’ purchase process, becoming an important part of the marketing mix.

Lau will also provide China case studies on how brands can leverage social media.

Lau joined Tencent, the 3rd largest internet company in the world, in 2006 to oversee the company’s online media business division and further develop the online advertising business. He has more than 19 years’ experience in leading international advertising agencies.

Prior to joining Tencent, Lau was the managing partner of Publicis China and the CEO for BBDO China. He had also held senior management positions at Dentsu Young & Rubicam in Shanghai and McCann-Erickson in both Beijing and Hong Kong.
