We Are Social has officially announced its new office in Hong Kong after setting it up for the past five months. Entering Hong Kong has, in fact, been the agency's ambition for more than three years.

This move by the "socially-led creative agency" owned by Chinese marcoms group BlueFocus, follows the agency opening a Madrid office this September and acquiring a majority stake in Dubai-based agency Socialize in June.

Since launching the first Asia-Pacific We Are Social office in Sydney in 2010, additional openings in Singapore, Shanghai and Beijing have added to the agency’s presence in the region. The Hong Kong office is the agency’s 13th globally.

Donald Wong, who is a Hong Kong native, will run the office servicing clients including BYD, Touch Beauty, and GMAC (organising body behind the business school entrance exam, GMAT). Wong has spent the past three years at We Are Social Shanghai before taking on this new role. He will oversee a team of social media specialists including account Manager Yun Gu, who is relocating from We Are Social’s Paris office.

Wong will report to Pete Lin, who was recently promoted from China managing director to North Asia regional managing director.

Wong said: “Hong Kong has always been the bridgehead linking the East and the West. It is, therefore, a natural and logical next step for We Are Social to move into this strategic position to better service our global-minded and global partners as well as our existing South China client base.”
