Mashable partners with Tencent to launch in China

The two companies have partnered to translate Mashable content into Chinese.

Mashable partners with Tencent to launch in China

Mashable news, features and videos are available in Chinese language on Tencent's technology vertical thanks to a deal announced yesterday.

In addition to launching a Mashable site in Chinese housed under the QQ portal, the Tencent partnership will also cover a WeChat account as a delivery channel for Mashable content. The new website has actually been up since the first week of January.

“As technology and entertainment’s influence continues to grow around the globe, establishing a presence in China is a natural next step in our international expansion,” said Mashable chief strategy officer Adam Ostrow.

Mashable representatives were unavailable to comment on how Mashable China will be monetised, as well as how it will accommodate censorship demands in China.

Chinese will be the fourth language that Mashable is translated into. Previously, the company has partnered with France24 to launch Mashable France, with Telemundo for its Spanish-language site #ElPulso, and with mThai to translate its content into Thai.

The media company also operates international English editions in the UK, France, Australia, India and Southeast Asia.
